If there’s one thing that Keeping Up with the Kardashians gave us, it’s a whole family of social media influencers. The family of Kardashians and Jenners is quite large, so it’s little wonder that at least one of them resides atop the Instagram social media tower.
In 2014 and 2015, Kylie and her sister Kendall were listed by Time magazine as being two of the most influential teens in the world, with social media being pointed out as the location where their influence is strongest. Kylie remains as one of the most-followed people on Instagram to this day, with more than 176 million followers as of May 2020. According to Forbes magazine, she is one of the world’s youngest billionaires, having a net worth of $1 billion at the tender age of 21.
A lot of this is to do with the fact that Kylie is the owner of her own beauty brand, Kylie Cosmetics. However, she also charges over $1 million dollars per Instagram post that she makes to endorse luxury fashion and beauty brands.
As the most followed woman on Instagram (with over 186 million followers), Ariana Grande certainly has a lot of influence through the social media platform. The 26-year-old singer, songwriter and actress also brings in a tidy sum of around $1 million for each endorsement post on Instagram. Companies garnering the benefit of Ariana promoting their products have experienced their number of followers swell significantly afterwards.
This isn’t really surprising considering that she has had several top-selling songs and albums, has won a Grammy Award and is the most-listened to female singer on Spotify and Apple Music. Such accolades saw Forbes magazine list her as one of the most influential people in both 2016 and 2019.
Footballers are some of the biggest stars in the world, and Ronaldo is known around the world for his skills on the pitch. Yet, the Portuguese player is also famous for many other reasons, having endorsed a number of brands over the course of his career. To date, he exists as the Instagram and Facebook user with the most followers, currently sitting at over 219 million. He has earned about €720 million from 2010 to 2019, and he was ranked second by Forbes in the highest-paid athletes of the decade.
Sports brands pretty much fall over themselves clambering to get Ronaldo to promote their products, and with good reason. He has such a big influence over his Instagram followers, thanks to the fact that he writes such sincere and complimentary posts for the products he’s endorsing. On average, he receives just under $1 million per post and has an engagement rate of 2.77% for such posts.
What one Kardashian or Jenner does, another one simply has to get themselves involved with. Kim wasn’t about to let Kylie Jenner have all the influencer fun and has herself amassed a following of above 171 million people. Like half-sister Kylie, she has launched her own cosmetics range, KKW Beauty, which provides a chunk of her current fortune.
Kim Kardashian-West is probably the most-known of the Kardashian Family, thanks to her former allegiance with socialite Paris Hilton and the sex tape that she filmed with Ray J. She constantly gains media attention, leading to brands offering their products to her to promote on a regular basis. She brings in about $900,000 per promotional post, and Time magazine listed her as one of the most influential people in 2015. In that same year, she was reported to be the highest-paid television personality, with estimated earnings of $53 million.
While Instagram has taken everyday celebrities and transformed them into social media influencers, YouTube has taken various everyday people and done the same. Ryan Kaji got his start on YouTube when he was just three years old, when he was filmed unboxing toys. Now an insightful eight-year-old, he has taken to conducting science experiments on his channel instead. Yet, it seems to have also set off a need for other Ryan Kaji items, with his own toy line being released to the public entitled Ryan’s World.
Ryan has reviewed many other toys as well, which has been proven to influence sales of such. His YouTube channel has been listed in 2018 and 2019 as the highest-earning on the social media platform, according to Forbes. Last year, he raked in a total of $26 million, which is up by $4 million from the 2018 period. His channel boasts over 25 million subscribers, and he hit new heights with video game releases and a show on Nickelodeon.
There’s a certain thrill that comes with trying to break Guinness World Records, perform dangerous stunts and compete in sporting events, but this hasn’t stopped five friends from doing it for their channel, Dude Perfect. With over 51 million subscribers, the group consists of twins Cory and Coby Cotton, Garrett Hilbert, Cody Jones and Tyler Toney. The five friends are former college roommates from Texas A&M University, and in their time on YouTube, they have smashed various Guinness World Records.
Videos on the Dude Perfect channel have amassed over 10 billion total views. Meanwhile, the channel itself is recognised as the second most subscribed to sports channel on YouTube and the 12th most subscribed to channel overall. For this reason, the five friends have managed to rake in over $20 million in both 2018 and 2019, whilst also bagging themselves a show on Nickelodeon in the process – The Dude Perfect Show.
One of the youngest YouTube stars is Russian-born Anastasiya Radzinskaya. At just five years old, Anastasiya first became known on the video sharing site for the posts that her parents did regarding her cerebral palsy. However, she has become much more known for the videos that she posts of her playing with her father on channels such as Like Nastya. Her earnings for the 2019 period are said to have been around $18 million, with over 54 million subscribers opting to be notified about her posts.
Various brands have taken notice of these videos, which are provided in seven different languages to cater to a wider audience demographic. Legoland and Dannon have paid out six-figure sums to work with the child star, meaning that she potentially stands to make much more for the 2020 period and beyond.
The American comedy duo of Rhett and Link self-styled themselves as “Internetainers”, a portmanteau of “Internet” and “entertainers”. They crafted the YouTube series known as Good Mythical Morning, as well as various comedic songs and sketches. Not only that, but they own the YouTube Premium series, Rhett and Link’s Buddy System, which has so far provided two seasons.
Good Mythical Morning sees the pair eating and drinking different foods, such as Cheetos-flavoured Pop-Tarts. Anyone using Tik Tok will doubtless have heard of Charli D’Amelio. As of May 2020, she has accumulated over 55.7 million followers on the social media platform, and she has often been given the moniker of the “reigning queen of Tik Tok” by the New York Times. Her vast number of followers makes her account the most followed for an individual on the platform.
As it happens, her career on Tik Tok only began in the summer of 2019, when she uploaded various dance videos to the server. In a similar vein, these videos led to her acquiring around 18 million followers on Instagram and almost 4 million subscribers via YouTube. In the ten-month period since she began posting Tik Tok videos, she managed to soar to the top of the rankings as the most-followed account – a status that was held by Loren Gray until March of 2020.
It was in January of this year that she signed with talent agency UTA, and she went on to land a spot in a commercial for Sabra Hummus alongside other celebrities, which was aired specially for the Super Bowl. At the same time, she was invited to attend the Super Bowl LIV, meet Jennifer Lopez and create the now-viral Tik Tok challenge known as the “J Lo Super Bowl Challenge”. It is said that D'Amelio earns around $48,000 per Tik Tok post she makes, which is insane for a 16-year-old.
With over 42 million followers on Tik Tok, Loren Gray earns around $42k per post. She is an American singer who has been signed to Virgin Records and Capitol Records, and her debut single was launched in March of 2018, entitled “My Story”. Since that time, she has released five other singles and has collaborated with the Lost Kings on their track “Anti-Everything”. Not to mention, she was featured in the music video for Taylor Swift’s “The Man” in February of 2020.
Gray started out by posting on musical.ly and since the merger, she has continued posting lip-sync, singing and dancing videos. She has a 2.31% engagement rate, and despite being the victim of mass bullying in school once her followers number soared, she has continued to create videos and post them. Now, the 18-year-old has over 19 million followers on Instagram and almost 4 million subscribers on YouTube, too.
While Tik Tok has generally been associated with teenage stars, Zach King isn’t within that demographic at all. The 30-year-old started out by creating videos on the now-defunct Vine app, before switching to Tik Tok. He could potentially be considered as much more talented than anyone else on Tik Tok, with his six-second digitally edited videos known as “magic vines”. Today, he earns around $41,000 per post from his 42 million followers.
He also owns a YouTube channel, where all his videos are posted too, and this has led to him recently signing a deal with Tic Tacs. Through his Tik Tok account, he has quite the engagement rate at 5.4%.
It would be improper to speak of Tik Tok influencers without mentioning Riyaz Afreen. This Indian personality has crafted numerous videos of himself lip-syncing to multiple songs and has also recorded duets with others to provide entertainment to his 37 million followers. Not only is he a social media influencer, but he works as an actor and a fashion blogger, too.
It's estimated that he brings in between $22,075 and $36,791 per Tik Tok post, and has acquired over 2 billion likes in his time using the app. To add to his musical videos, Afreen has taken to creating comedy videos as well, which has led to the 17-year-old acquiring masses of followers on other social media platforms, including Instagram and YouTube.
