What are Payways Slots?
Big Time Gaming might
like to think that they have a monopoly on slots with thousands of paylines.
For a while, the success of Megaways™ slots has been unrivalled. While rival
developers have flocked to lease the gaming engine from BTG, Play ‘n Go have
chosen to go down a different route.
The European casino
software provider has chosen to have a crack at a similar gaming engine, and
they have called it Payways. The Payways gaming engine is only just getting off
the ground, but already, Play ‘n Go have a few slots in their arsenal which
incorporate it. There is a promise of many more to follow. Our guide to Payways
slot games will tell you all about this latest gaming engine. It will introduce
you to top slots featuring it. It will also provide you with a handful of
reasons to why Payways may just be about to give Megaways™ slots a run for their

How Do Payways Slots work?
Payways slots work a
little differently than their Megaways™ cousins. While there are undoubtedly
similarities between the two gaming engines, Play ‘n Go’s works in a slightly
different manner. There are six reels in each game. The first and sixth reels
are guaranteed to carry just three symbols per reel.
However, the other
four reels can display up to 4 symbols per reel. On top of that, there is a
horizontal reel. If a symbol on that reel matches one below it, it can see the
central reels expand by up to 7 symbols. The number of paylines a player gets
depends on the number of rows (and thus the size of the symbols) which appear
on the reels. At least 2,304 lines should appear on each spin in the newer
releases. Fully expanded reels can feature as many as 21,609 ways to win. The
exact number of Payways varies from game to game. Older versions tend to
feature fewer paylines.
Every time a player
lands a win on a Payways slot, a cascading feature comes into play. This will
see winning symbols removed and replaced by new ones. In the upper left-hand
corner of the reels is a Win
Multiplier. For every successful
cascading win that a player manages to chain together, the multiplier will
increase. Those multipliers are then applied to the wins. Once no new wins are
possible, the Win Multiplier resets to 1x.

A Bright Future for
Payways slots only
debuted in the summer of 2019, so it is far too early to predict how much of a
challenge to BTG’s Megaways™ dominance they will go on to be. However, the early
signs are there that Play ‘n Go’s slots can at least compete. Their very first
release, Perfect Gems, is by and large a clone of the award-winning BTG slot,
Bonanza. This will no doubt rile BTG considerably, as will the similarity
between the engines. However, the competition can only be good for slot lovers.
Players who are
unable to access Megaways™ slots (or don’t know the surplus of similarly designed
games), may very well decide that Payways slots are the right path for them. It
won’t come as a shock if other providers choose to try and lease the Payways
engine from Play ‘n Go either. This has happened with Megaways™ games, and any
developer seeking something different from BTG’s offering will find the Payways
Payways slots are
high variance games, so they aren’t going to be everybody’s cup of tea.
However, there is a promise of rich winnings, as well as original gaming in
these titles. Unlike their rival, each Payways game’s features are being
planned to be considerably different from its sister slots. The split symbol
and spin bonuses that players will find in Perfect Gems, for instance, may not
appear in other Payways games. Provided Play ‘n Go can ensure originality and
offer up a more user-friendly package and less complicated features than BTG’s
Megaways™ titles, the future for Payways slots looks rosy.

FINAL THOUGHTS ON PAYWAYS SLOTS
early signs look promising for Payways slots. Rather than capitulate (like so
many other providers) and lease the Megaways™ engine, Play ‘n Go are fighting.
They have come up with their own gaming engine, and the consensus is that the
gameplay is fun, enjoyable and engaging. Players won’t know just how far Play
‘n Go can take the Payways slot genre though, until a few more titles are
added to its library.
